| Visual Quantum Mechanics
One copy left. The objective of Visual Quantum Mechanics (VQM) is to bring quantum physics to high school and non-science college students. Unfortunately, quantum mechanics is usually omitted from an introductory physics course because a high level of abstraction and mathematical formalism is traditionally associated with how the subject is taught. VQM addresses these concerns through instructional units designed to introduce quantum principles to high school and introductory college students who do not have a background in modern physics or higher level mathematics.
Integrating interactive computer programs (Windows 95+ or Macintosh 8.1+) with inexpensive materials and written documents in an activity-based environment, VQM utilizes visualization techniques to replace higher level mathematics. The learning of quantum physics is integrated into the traditional physics curriculum by applying a learning strategy in which students actively construct knowledge to illustrate the application of quantum principles to physical phenomena and modern technology.
Each VQM instructional unit stresses a qualitative knowledge of a few concepts. The prerequisites for each unit are kept to a minimum, so that the study of contemporary topics can be integrated throughout the traditional physics curriculum. The VQM units are Solids and Light, Luminescence: It's Cool light!, Waves of Matter, Potential Energy Diagrams, and Exploring the Very Small.

AAPT and Ztek have produced a set of DVD's using the compilation of more than 245 "classic" physics experiments. These videos, called Physics: Cinema Classics, provide convenient access to material from Physical Science Study Committee 16mm films, Project Physics 8mm film loops, Ealing 8mm film loops and many others. The video and still images on the DVD's are acompanied by instructor's hints and two separate audio tracks: an inquiry track and an explanation track.
